Tiritiri Matangi ティリティリマタンギ島 1

Tiritiri Matangi Island is an open sanctuary, only 150 tourists a day are allowed to land. I made a booking two weeks before on the email. They sent me a booking confirmation.
It said “Tiritiri Matangi remains pest free. Ensure your footwear, clothing and bags are clearn and free of seeds. Please ensure your lunch is packed in a rodent-proof container such as hard plastic or metal.”

離島保護区のティリティリマタンギ島はオークランドから船で約80分。希少な動植物を他の地域から移住させて保護。多くのボランティアたちが協力しています。
保護のため、入島できる観光客は150人と制限されているので、２週間前にメールで予約をしておきました。予約確認書とともに、注意事項があり、「生態系を壊さないために、虫やネズミや植物の種などを持ち込まないように。靴や服やバッグはきれいにして、ランチはタッパや金属など固い容器に入れること。」


We left Auckland harbour at 9am.
オークランドを９時出発。船にはランゲージスクールの生徒らしき人たちも50-60人乗っていました。甲板の椅子に座り、本やノートを広げて勉強してる生徒も。
都会にしばらく、さようなら。

２つのポッコリした丘は、昔の噴火口のようでした。


The ship stopped at Gulf Harbour Marina, many tourists got in it.
途中、ガルフハーバーに寄港。たくさんの人たちが待っていました。

ティリティリマタンギ島が見えてきました。


We landed on the island. It was a pleasant sunny day.
上陸です。天気も良く、わくわく。


At first they gave us an orientation, then we were divided about-ten-people groups. Each group followed their guide.

上陸するとみんな集められ、注意事項を聞きます。その後は、ほとんどの人がガイドウオークを申し込んでいて、約10人ずつのグループに分けられます。
ボランティアのガイドが紹介され、そのガイドのグループの参加者が１人ずつ名前を呼ばれます。なんだか学生に戻った気分で楽しい。
簡単な自己紹介の後、グループごとに歩き始めます。
