Katakuri

I visited Kakunodate in Akita to see cherry blossoms in 2005, but cherry trees had not bloomed yet, because that year was colder than average year. I heard of a colony of Katakuri (dogtooth violet) in Yatsu. I got on a train at Kakunodate, got off the third stop, Yatsu.
Local people said most Katakuri were still in bud. But it was the first time to me to see lots of Katakuri. I was so impressed!

Countless Katakuri! They were pretty.

Shinkawa Onsen

The following day, it was raining and cloudy. The mountains were covered with thick clouds. I knew there was a sightseeing bus to Ebino Kogen, but I didn’t take the bus because of the bad weather.
I found “Shinkawa Onsen” on my guidebook. It said that there were hot-spring inns along a stream and it was nice for walking. I decided to go there.
I got on a bus at Maruo, then got off at Shiohitashi Hatsudensho. I started walking on the road along a stream.
Soon after I started walking, I was on a bridge. I could see blue water of the stream, fresh green leaves, rocks carved by water, moss on the rocks and so on. They were so nice. I was lucky that I decided to walk there. I just hoped not to fall rain.

I was feeling spring.

This tree was standing beside the road I was walking. The moment I saw the tree, I felt something strange, as if the tree sent out power.

There were open-air baths along the stream.

I enjoyed walking in the nature.
I wanted to stop at Hinode Onsen. But it was closed because of family member’s funeral. I’ll visit there next time.

Anraku Onsen. There were many guesthouses, Minshuku, having onsen. I’ll visit a few Minshukus to take onsen next time.

I arrived Myoken Onsen. There were many Minshukus and hotels. I went to Orihashi Ryokan. They had indoor baths (300 yen) and outdoor baths (500 yen). I took outdoor onsen. Petals of cherry blossom were falling on the onsen as if snow was falling.

I left Myoken Onsen, walked back on the road along the stream.
I visited a ryokan, Seseragi-so. They had two open-air baths. I chose one near the wisteria flower.

The open-air bath was right beside the stream!

From the bath, I could see the wisteria flower, a waterfall, bubbles from the bottom of the stream, fish, birds and so on. I spent a confortable time.

The owner of Seseragi-so told me that “Onsen-bus” was coming soon and it took me to the airport. I took the bus.
Just after I got on the bus, strong rain started falling! When I arrived at the airport, it changed thunderstorm. If I had kept walking, I must have been soaked all over.
I couldn’t visit Ebino Kogen on this trip. I’m sure I’ll visit there next time. I’m looking forward to the next trip.

Kirishima Onsen

I walked down the stairs of the entrance at Kirishima Jingu, I was thinking what I’m going to do next. I checked bus timetable, I found the next bus was 60 minutes later. I decided to walk to Shinwa-no-sato where I could see splendid landscape from bus on my way to Kirishima Jingu.
I like walking, even it was along the road vehicles came and went busily. I could notice tiny plants and creatures, feel winds and smells of flowers, hear sounds of birds. Flowers reminded me of my childhood, I used to make necklaces by flowers.

I arrived at Shinwa-no-sato. There were restaurants and shops.

If it had been beautiful weather, I might have seen Sakurajima.

I took a bus, headed to Yunotani Onsen. I was looking forward to the onsen because it seemed like my favorite onsen, Yachi Onsen in Aomori.
When I was walking from a bus stop, Yunotani Onsen iriguchi, I found a sign “Yunotani Sanso is closed now. It will be open at the middle of April.” I’ll visit there next time.
I started walking for Maruo.

There was a beautiful waterfall, Maruo-no-Taki. It reminded me of a waterfall in IcelandSvartifoss, black waterfall.

Kirishima Jingu

I visited Kirishima in Kagoshima Prefecture on April 15.
When I arrived at Kagoshima Airport, the sky was covered with clouds. I wanted to go to Ebino Kogen, heights. I asked how to get there at the tourists information of the airport, I knew I needed to take a taxi from Hayashida Onsen. It might be raining at highland, so I changed the plan, headed to Kirishima Jingu by bus. I changed buses at Maruo.

Tsutsuji, Japanese azalea.

Akebi.

I walked on the approach path.

Main shrine.

A drooping cherry tree was in full blooms beside the corridor of stairs.

There was a sacred cedar in front of main shrine.

It seemed cherry tree next to the sacred cedar. A small cedar was growing on the tree.

Expo Park

I visited Expo Park in Osaka on April 10th. On the day before, I heard an announcer of NHK said “National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka ….”. I didn’t catch what he was talking about, but I was interested in that, checked on the internet.
I got off monorail at Banpaku Kinenkoen station, Taiyo-no-To which was Okamoto Taro’s work welcomed me.

I wanted to go to the museum directly, but flowers prevented me from going.
Cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

These tiny buds were red, looked like roses.

There were various plants in the park. Small plums.

Cherry blossoms began to fall.

Taiyo-no-To was big, 70m high.

There was a tree at the side of tea field.

I don’t know the name of the tree. It smelled nice.

I haven’t seen huge number of tulips for more than ten years. It was great.
Last time I saw such scene was Tonami Tulip Festival.

Finally I reached the museum, enjoyed all day. Special Exhibition, Pilgrimage and Sacred Places, was held at the museum.
On my way to the station, I noticed that there was a face on the back of Taiyo-no-To.
