I heard about Ireland from one of my friends who had travelled around the country a few years before. She said Ireland had wonderful natural scenery and amazing historical stone buildings. I visited Ireland in 2004.
I flew to Dublin via London, took a train and headed to Killarney.
歴史ある街と美しい自然がたっぷりのアイルランド。訪れたのは2004年6月終わりから7月初め。
ロンドン経由で首都のダブリンへ。着いた当日、電車でアイルランドの南西部にあるキラーニーへ。テーブル付きの車両でゆったり。アナウンスがないので、乗り換えはドキドキでしたが、乗り換える人が多く、無事にキラーニーに到着。
この頃は日が長く、たしか21時頃から暗くなるので、行動できる時間が多いのが良い。
I stayed at a hostel in Killarney for two nights. I met a male guest at a kitchen in the morning, he said "I'm operating a sightseeing boat. Japanese people on a tour come to Killarney twice a month. But I rarely see Japanese people except them. Why do you come here?"
アイルランドはYHAが少なく、YHAでないホステルに泊まりましたが、男女相部屋でトイレやシャワーも男女一緒のところから、快適な男女別相部屋までありました。
キラーニーに日本人は珍しいらしく、朝食の時に出会った観光船を操縦するというおじさまは、「月に２回、日本人の団体が来るけど、それ以外はあまり見ないなぁ」と言ってました。
I joined the Ring of Kerry tour for one day. It was cloudy all day unfortunately.
キラーニーに２泊して、まずは半島をぐるっと一周するケリー周遊路の一日バスツアーに参加しました。イギリスのように、どんよりとした日が多い。。。
If it had been a beautiful day, I could've seen such wonderful scenery like this postcard.
買った絵はがきですが、晴れていればこのように素晴らしい景色。
This scenery is similar to the lake district in England.
イングランドの湖水地方に似たような風景。
On the following day, I joined another tour.
次の日も一日バスツアーで、ディングル半島を一周。
The sun was sometimes shining on that day.
途中から晴れ間がのぞきました。
This stone building, Gallarus Oratory, was built in about 1300 years ago.
ガララス礼拝堂。7世紀頃の建築だそうです。高さ約5m、長さ約8m。
