Iriomote 西表 1

On the second day of this trip, we visited Iriomote Island by boat. At first we joined Nakama River Mangrove Cruise.

竹富島で一泊した後、石垣島経由で西表島へ。大原港では、仲間川マングローブクルーズのスタッフが観光客を待っていました。遊覧ボート乗り場近くまで、送ってもらいました。


It was the first time for my parents to see mangrove trees.
I should've checked the low tide time. We took the sightseeing boat at high tide, so we couldn't see the roots of mangrove trees clearly.

初めての沖縄という両親にとって、マングローブの森は初めて。
満潮の時間ちかくだったので、マングローブ特有の蛸の足のような根っこがはっきり見れず残念。満潮と干潮の時間を調べるのを忘れていました。



Some big trees were lying because of big typhoons.
台風や大雨で大きな木々が倒れていた。ここでは、倒木でも人の手が入れれないとか。
向こうの山には、ヤシの木の群生。


There was a colony of a kind of palm, yaeyamayashi. They grow only Ishigaki and Iriomote.
ヤエヤマヤシの群生地。西表島と石垣島の一部でしか見られないとか。



We landed on this place to look at a big tree.
上流の船着き場。このすぐ先に、サキシマスオウノキ。
「５分間停泊します」と。５分？　短すぎる。。。



Sakishimasuonoki. Its board shaped root was amazing.
上陸して数十メートルでこのサキシマスオウノキ。この辺りで最大の板根です。


We walked on a boardwalk to protect its root.
根の保護のためでしょう。ウォークボードの上しか歩けません。


We took the sightseeing boat again, headed to the start point.
また観光船に乗って、乗り場まで戻りました。
この日の朝は、豪雨の通り雨でしたが、クルージング中は晴れてラッキー。
