Taketomi -SUASHI tour- 素足ツアー

I stayed at Takana Ryokan YH. I enjoyed a great meal, talking to another guest who came from Saitama and the owner of the YH. The owner said “If it wasn’t raining, we could take a walk and see countless stars.” Then he showed us photos of Taketomi which were attractive. I have to come back Taketomi in other seasons!
竹富島では高那旅館YHで一泊。シーズンオフのため、宿泊客は埼玉からの旅人と私の２人。ボリュームたっぷりの夕食を２人ぼっちで寂しく食べていたけど、途中からこのYHのおじちゃんが登場。竹富島の話や、台湾旅行の話が続く。「雨が降ってなきゃ、散歩に行けるんだけどなぁ。残念だなぁ。晴れてると、星がきれいんだよ。」そして、写真をたくさん見せてくれた。ヤシガニがよく写ってる。「アカショウビンは、春に来るよ。」う〜ん、他の季節にも来なきゃ！


On December 3rd. I took a walk in the early morning, had a breakfast, headed to a visitor center “Yugafu-kan”.
竹富島２日目。朝の散歩をして、朝食後YHを出た。港のそばのビジターセンター竹富島ゆがふ館へ。庭には、ハスノハギリの木が並ぶ。


“Suashi tour” was organized by Yugafu-kan. I wanted to join the tour, but they said “We need one more person to start the tour.” So I waited for someone. Soon after, a man who I met at YH showed up to join the tour!
ゆがふ館では“素足で感じる竹富島”というツアーが開催されている。参加を申し込もうと思ったら、ツアーが出るには、もう一人の参加が必要なので。。。と言われてしまい、しばらく待つことにした。と、YHで出会った埼玉の旅人が登場！ 前夜、このツアーのことを話したね。


We spent the first 45 minutes of the tour in Yugafu-kan. We learned about Taketomi from pictures, a movie and explanation. We learned that people had an idea “Utsugumi” which was a kind of cooperation. All people cooperate at anytime such as festivals, daily life, after typhoons.
You can see that Taketomi is close to Taiwan and Philippine from the map.
ツアー最初の45分はゆがふ館で過ごす。展示物の説明を受けたり、映像を見て竹富島のことを知る。竹富島には“うつぐみ”という精神があり、何をするにも住民は協力する。毎朝のサンゴ砂の道を竹ぼうき、お祭りの時、そして今年の13号台風の時にはゆぐふ館の庭の木も折れたり倒れたりしたけど、次の日には住民がやってきてかたずけが始まったとか。
この地図から分かるように、台湾やフィリピンが近い！

Taketomi is the island of coral reef heaved. So there was no rice field. People use to go to Iriomote-jima to do agriculture.
石垣島と西表島の間の島々の写真。珊瑚礁に囲まれているのが分かる。真ん中から少し右の、栗のような形の島が竹富島。この珊瑚礁のおかげで、天気が悪くても船はあまり欠航しない。
竹富島はサンゴが隆起した島なので、肥えていない。以前はこの珊瑚礁を伝いながら船で西表島へ行って、農作物を作ったとか。だからおばちゃん達が新婚の頃、夫は年の半分以上家にいなかったらしい。


We left Yugafu-kan, headed to Yomochi-on to meet our guide, Matchan. She said “Matchan was my name in childhood. But I am often called it still now.”
This is Kukku. People use to watch ships from there.
その後、バスに乗り（といっても、1０人乗りくらいの自動車）世持御獄へ。そこで、私たちのガイド、まっちゃんおばちゃんが待っていた。名札を見せながら「本当の名前はこれだけど、まっちゃんは子どもの時の呼び名で、まわりのみんなはまっちゃんおばちゃんって今でも呼ぶの」って。
これはクック（火番盛）。琉球王国の時代、ここから船を監視し、のろしをあげていたらしい。


The view from Kukku. The road led to one of harbors which doesn’t use anymore. When Matchan was a child, many people went to work to Taiwan. The day her sister left Taketomi, her family member came here, waved a flag and sang a song for her.
Matchan started singing for us. It was so nice.
クックの上からの風景。おばちゃんが子どもの頃は台湾へ出稼ぎに行く人が多かったらしい。おばちゃんの一番上のお姉さんが出稼ぎに行った日、家族全員がこのクックに集まり旗を降って歌いながら見送ったとか。と、おばちゃん、歌い出す。


Yomochi-on. Tanetori festival is held in autumn here. People dance and pray for god of Yomochi-on. On the festival day, Taketomi is more crowded than the new year’s day.
世持御獄。竹富島最大の秋の祭り、“種子取祭”（重要無形民俗文化財）の会場。竹富島出身の人たちも帰ってきて、お正月よりにぎやかだとか。“うつぐみ”精神で、踊る人・祈る人・料理を作る人など、それぞれ自分の仕事を見つけて協力し、お祭りを支える。世持御獄の前に舞台があり、ここで芸能が奉納される。「神様の前で踊るので、とっても緊張したよ。」


We visited a house.
次に、シーサーが待つ家へおじゃました。

We enjoyed chatting with local people in the house.
Then Matchan took us to a museum. We said good-by to Matchan there. I spent with Matchan only one hour, but it was precious experience for me and I became a fan of Taketomi.
ここで、“ゆんたく”。お茶とお菓子を頂いて、おばちゃん達とおしゃべりタイム。風通しが良くなっているんだ。落ち着くわ〜。
ここでゆっくりした後は、民俗資料館へ。そこで、まっちゃんおばちゃんとお別れ。約１時間だったけど、おばちゃんのおかげで竹富島が大好きになりました。
