Autumn in 2006 - Kurama 鞍馬

I had wanted to visit Kurama for long time since I read Heike-monogatari written by Yoshikawa Eiji. It said Minamoto Yoshitsune had lived in Kurama in his childhood.
I left Miyama, headed to Kurama. It was still raining.
Nio-mon. There were many shops in front of the gate.

吉川英治の平家物語を読んでから、義経が幼少時代過ごしたという鞍馬へ行ってみたいと思っていた。小雨の降る中、美山からの帰りに鞍馬を訪れた。
仁王門。門前には佃煮やさんなど、お店が並んでいた。


I walked up on the steep slope. I reached Yuki-shrine. It is famous for its Himatsuri (fire festival) in October.
ケーブルを利用せず、歩いて登る。しばらくすると、由岐神社がある。立派な杉の木があったよ。


I went on walking.
由岐神社を過ぎ、紅葉を見ながらどんどん登る。
途中に座る場所があるけど、雨で濡れているのでひたすら歩く。


Finally I arrived at Honden.
やっと本殿に到着。


The guardian was … a tiger?
本殿を守るのは、とら、ですか？

Many people were taking photos of the autumn colors.
紅葉がきれいなので、雨にもかかわらずカメラマンがたくさんいました。



If it had not been raining, I could have seen mountains.
奥の院を目指して、さらに登る。晴れていれば、山々が見える。


I went on walking. It was a pleasant pathway surrounded by trees.
本殿から奥は木々にかこまれ、ハイキング道。


Roots of trees were creeping on the ground.
木の根道。岩盤が固く地下に根が張れないため、根が地表を這っている。


Trees!
立派な木たち。堂々としている。


Yoshitsune-do.
I imagined that Yoshitsune had been running around here about 800 years ago.
義経堂。義経は幼少のころ、天狗を師匠にこの辺りを毎日走り回って修行していたのかなぁ〜。


I walked down to Kibune. It’s famous for KAWADOKO. There were restaurants along a stream. They make space (KAWADOKO) on the stream and serve food in summer.
奥の院を過ぎ、貴船へ下った。貴船には川が道沿いにあり、夏にはここに川床が作られて、食事を楽しめるらしい。
