Asuka 1

I visited Asuka in Nara on May 2. I haven’t been there for more than ten years. I woke up early morning, got on the first train.
I got off at Okadera station, headed to the biggest stone of mystery stoneworks in Asuka, Masuda-no-iwafune. I saw Tsutsuji (Japanese azalea) in full bloom at gardens of residential area.

I arrived at a park, climbed up a hiking path. Soon after, I saw a huge stone.

Huge! It was said the height was 4.7m.

I walked around the stone, Masuda-no-iwafune.

The path I had walked to the stone.

I could see the top of the stone. It was said that it was made in the seventh century.

No one knows what it was used for. It looked like Nekobus in Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro.

I was really impressed on the stone, gazed for a while.

I started walking on the hiking path. There was a beautiful bamboo grove.

Then there were cedars and ferns. It was a pleasant hiking.
