Taisetsuzan＊Kogen onsen 大雪山＊高原温泉沼めぐり

September is the season of kouyou (autumn colors) in Taisetsuzan. It’s the earliest kouyou in Japan. Taisetsuzan is consisted of many mountains, located in the middle of Hokkaido. There are a lot of hiking courses from paths for family to trails for more than three days.
I visited there in 1993 for the first time. I met a tourist at a YH in Hokkaido, she just came from Taisetsuzan. She told me “the autumn colors was so beautiful!” I went to Taisetsuzan on the following day. I was stunned when I saw the beautiful scenery. Since then, I visited there every year for four years.
There is a hiking course which leads from pond to pond in Kogen Onsen. Bears live around there. Guards are keeping watch bears, give information to tourists. When bears are active, you can’t walk on the whole pathway. The weather is changeable and it’s quick to change the color of leaves, so it’s difficult to see the best kouyou.

９月は、大雪山の紅葉の季節。大雪山は北海道の中央にあり、山々を総称してそう呼ばれる。ロープウエイを利用したファミリーコースのお散歩道から、３日以上必要な縦走コースまであり、大自然が広がっている。
初めて訪れたのは1993年。支笏湖YHでたまたま出会った人が大雪山からの帰りで、紅葉がとてもきれいだったと話していた。次の日、大雪山へ行き、紅葉の美しさに驚いた。それから毎年４年間訪れた。
高原温泉に沼をめぐるコースがある。９月は紅葉のため観光客がたくさん訪れるが、この辺りにはヒグマが住んでいるため、監視員の多い連休の５−６日しか、このコースを一周できない。（現在も同じなのかな？）ヒグマの行動の状況でも制限される。この季節は天気が変わりやすく、また紅葉のスピードが速いので、なかなかベストな紅葉に出会うのは難しい。
今頃はもう色づき始め、まもなく例年のようにNHKニュースで “大雪山では紅葉が始まっています” と映像が流されるでしょう。
