Arles アルル 3

I kept walking around the town of Arles. This was the center of the town.
アルルの街をてくてくお散歩。市庁舎前のレピュブリック広場。にぎやかです。


I entered St. Trophime cloister, it was quiet and peaceful.
広場からサン・トロフィーム教会へ一歩入ると、そこは静寂で厳かな世界。



There were beautiful glasses.
ステンドグラスも素敵でした。


I headed to the Roman Public Baths of Arles.
コンスタンタン共同浴場へ向かいます。


It was built in the forth century.
４世紀に建てられたそうです。大きい。


I walked and lookd around the ancient bath.
入場して見学。レンガ造りが何とも言えず、かわいい。ローマ人たちは、ここで会話を楽しんだのでしょうね。

ここはサウナの施設？


Espace Van Gogh, which used to be a hospital Van Gogh had stayed. The building was not a hospital anymore, but used as a culture center.
ゴッホが入院していた病院。きれいな花壇が中央にあり、ここを訪れた観光客の第一声はみんな「オー！」と感動していました。現在は文化センターとして利用され、図書館などがありました。


I headed to the Alyscamps of Arles.
最後に、ローマ墓地のアリスカンを訪れました。閉館時間が近づいていたので、「急いでね」とせかされて入場。


There were stone coffins along the pathway to Church of St. Honorat.
参道には石棺が並んでいました。


I arrived at Church of St. Honorat. I impressed the shape of the tower. I stayed Alres YH on the night.
参道の奥にはサン・トノラ教会。塔の形が素晴らしい。
この日はアリスカン近くのアルルYHで一泊。建物は学校の校舎のようで天井が高い。8人部屋には、「仕事を探しているの」という荷物をたくさん持ったメキシコ人や、自転車で旅をしているという40歳代くらいのドイツ人など。


On the following morning, I took a walk towards Alres station. I headed to Nimes by train.
次の朝、駅までてくてくお散歩。川沿いには昔架かっていた橋の跡。ここにはキャンピングカーが５−６台停まっていました。そんな旅の仕方もあるのですね。私は電車でニームに向かいました。

Arles アルル 2

I visited the Roman theater after leaving the amphitheatre. It was built in the first century, and only two pillars survived. There were few visitors, so quiet. Most of tourists looked and took its photos from the pathway around it.

円形闘技場の近くに古代劇場がありました。ここも2000年くらい前に建設されたものです。中世のアルルの都市建設のために大理石の柱や彫刻が使われて、今は２本の大きな円柱が残るのみだとか。保存状態が極めて良いオランジュの古代劇場とは大違いです。
入り口の受付は小さく、訪れる人も少ない。円形闘技場で見かけた日本人ツアー観光客たちも、周囲の歩道から眺めたり写真を撮って、足早に過ぎ去っていきました。でも、ここはとても印象に残った場所。そのわけは。。。

Those ditches might be the ruins of the curtain machinery part placed underneath.
舞台から観客席の方を見ます。カーテン操作をする機械は地下にあったらしいので、舞台と観客席との間の遺跡はそれだったのでしょうか。


I saw it from the backstage.
舞台裏から見るとこんな感じ。


I noticed these blocks of marble.
敷地内を歩き回っていると、大理石が無造作に置かれているのに気付きました。


They might have been parts of the Roman theater.
古代劇場の一部だったのでしょうか。一つ一つ見て歩きました。


They were wonderful carvings.
素晴らしい彫刻がたくさんです。


I found a carving of a bird looked funny. I was very fun to imagine what had been like there in ancient times.
長い年月を経て、出会った鳥。どの部分だったのでしょうか。
保存状態が良くて昔の姿が今でも見られるのも感動ですが、昔の姿を想像する楽しさや夢がここにありました。どれもこれも素晴らしく、何かを語りかけてくるようでした。

Arles アルル 1

I headed to Arles by train, it took 20 minutes. I wanted to go by bus to see villages the bus went through. But the day was Sunday and buses between them were fewer than weekdays, so I gave up taking a bus. I took a walk from Arles station to the town.

アヴィニョンからアルルへ移動。途中の街なみを車窓から見ようとバスで行きたかったのですが、日曜日は極端に便数が少なくて断念。電車で約20分。券売機で切符を買ってみました。クレジットカードでの支払いのみで、行き先や乗る電車を指定しないといけないので、時間がかかる。
アルル駅からしばらく歩くと、アルルの城壁。


I saw a man carrying a baguette in his arm, it was one of daily life in France.
街をてくてくお散歩。パン屋さんからは、バゲットを手にしたおじさまが。フランスの日常風景ですね。


Amphitheatre was soon.
まもなく円形闘技場。


I bought a discount ticket for nine monuments and museums in Arles.
円形闘技場。9カ所の共通割引チケットを買いました。

I walked up to the highest place.
高台まで上がる。


It was a splendid panorama view. I was asked to take photos by English young people. There were lots of tourists including Japanese people.
最上階から望むアルルの街なみ。ここは観光客が多く、イギリス人の修学旅行らしい若い人たち、日本人ツアー客なども見かけました。




There were restaurants and shops around the amphitheatre.
周囲にはカフェやショップが並んでいました。ここでゆっくりランチなんてできたら、素敵でしょうね。

Avignon アヴィニョン 2

I walked to a park on a hill.
アヴィニョンでてくてくお散歩。法王庁宮殿のそばの、高台にある公園へ。街なみが見渡せました。

違う方向には、ゆったりとした自然豊かな風景。


Pont St-Bénezet. It was suffered from floods and repaired many times since it was built in 14th century. Finally it was given up to repair in the 17th century.
川にはアヴィニョン橋で有名なサン・ベネゼ橋。1350年頃に架けられたこの橋は何度も洪水で被害を受けていましたが、17世紀からは修繕されずこの姿。


There was a small church on the bridge.
橋の上には小さな教会がありました。


I remembered that I had sung a song of the bridge with the chorus of Notre Dame when I was a child in the local children chorus group. “sur le pont d’Avignon, on y danser, on y danser”
小学生の時、少年少女合唱団でノートルダム寺院少年合唱団員と一緒に歌った。「しゅるぽん。だびにょん。おんにだんす。おんにだんす。」（アヴィニョンの橋の上で、踊ろう、踊ろう）とひらがなで覚えたフランス語のメロディーを、口ずさみながら橋の上をお散歩。
振り返ると、法王庁宮殿や公園。


I strolled along the river. People enjoyed chatting, walking and jogging.
対岸までお散歩。川沿いには公園。ベンチもたくさんあり、お散歩やジョギングなどゆったり過ごせます。

Avignon アヴィニョン 1

I left Pont du Gard, got to Avignon. I took a walk in the town surrounded by the castle wall.
ポン・デュ・ガールからアヴィニョンに戻り、てくてくお散歩。アヴィニョンは城壁に囲まれています。


There were lots of café, restaurants and shops in the wall.
城壁を入ると、カフェやレストラン、ショップなど立ち並んでいます。


Windows were nice.
窓もおしゃれです。


Some windows were fun.
この窓も楽しい。


Opera theatre.
オペラ劇場。


This music school had wonderful walls.
音楽学校。壁が素晴らしい。


The papal palace. I looked around inside, then went up to the roof.
法王庁宮殿の正面です。内部を見学し、最後に屋上に上がりました。

Gargoyles protected the palace.
近くの壁では、ガーゴイルたちがこの宮殿を守っていました。


I enjoyed the view of Avignon from the roof for a while.
しばらく、アヴィニョンの街なみを眺めていました。
