Awashima 海

 On the following day, I enjoyed cycling again.

次の日も、良い天気。また自転車を借りて、前日とは逆に島を半周しました。

 That was a big tree.

大きな木。存在感たっぷり。

 What a beautiful blue sky and sea!

空も海もきれい！

 Streaked Shearwater make their nests on that rock.

ここでは、オオミズナギドリが繁殖するそうです。

Many people enjoyed fishing on rocks by the coast. I think these boats carried anglers.

海岸や島から離れた岩場に、たくさんの釣り人が見えました。このボートは、釣り人たちのために走っているのでしょう。

Awashima サイクリング 2

 The sea was beautiful blue.

海の色がきれい。

 There are two villages in Awashima Island.

粟島には、２つの集落があります。港がある内浦地区と、ここ釜谷地区。

 Here is Kamaya Area.

民宿があり、夕日がきれいそうです。

 Steep slope again.

上り坂、頑張る。

 This road led me to a stunning coastline. 

ここからの風景が、特にきれいらしい。

 I went cycling along a winding road.

海の見える道が続いています。

 I took a picture against the light.

来た道を振り返る。逆光なので景色が暗く見えます。

 There were two observatories by the road.

展望台は２カ所ありました。

 You have to give attention to creatures crossing the road.

サイクリングで気をつけることは、いろいろな生き物が道路を渡っていること。

 The sun was going down.

昼間はセミが鳴き、夕方にはコオロギなどが鳴き始める。

I found a dragonfly.

トンボも見つけた。

Awashima サイクリング 1

 I headed to Awashima Island.

岩船港から高速船に乗ります。揺れることが多いので、後方の座席がいいですよ、とアドバイスをもらう。冬は海が荒れることが多いので、11月から3月までは、フェリー運行だけになるそうです。

 I checked in a guesthouse, then I went around the island by rental bicycle.

粟島の港では、民宿の方が迎えにきてくださいました。少し休憩したあと、村役場で自転車を借りて、島を巡ります。

 I walked on steep slopes. 

上り坂では、自転車を降りて歩きました。

 It was a hot day! I took a rest and enjoyed the scenery. 

暑い！　休憩しながら、振り向きながら、ゆっくり登りましょう。

 There was an observatory on the top of the hill.

長い上り坂の先には、展望台がありました。

ここからは、急な下り坂。島一周には、坂が続きます。

 I was looking forward to walking this pathway, but

ここのお散歩を、楽しみにしていたのですが、

 It was closed because of broken stairs.

階段が壊れている箇所があり、通行止めでした。

 I noticed a torii on the coast.

海岸に鳥居が見えました。

I looked back the peninsula. 

振り返ると、遊歩道がある半島が見えました。サイクリングを続けます。

Charming islands 島旅

There are lots of islands in Japan. I visited two islands in the last one week. The first trip was Awashima island in Niigata prefecture. On September 26, I flew to Niigata and stayed one night, on the following morning I went to Murakami by train and headed to Iwafune Port by taxi. I went to Awashima island by High-speed craft.

日本には、たくさんの島がありますね。そのうちの２島を訪れました。

まずは、９月下旬に新潟県粟島。数年前、旅の途中で粟島と飛島のパンフレットを見かけて、いつか行ってみたいと思っていました。周囲約23kmの島。

新潟へ飛んで一泊。翌朝電車で村上へ向かい、予約していた乗り合いタクシーで岩船港へ。高速船で粟島まで約１時間。
