þingvellir シンクヴェトリル国立公園

Our bus ran through the lava plateau. We arrived at the final stop in Golden Circle, þingvellir. It was the rift between the North American and European plates. It moves apart about 2cm each year. We walked on the path.

バスは溶岩台地を走り、ゴールデンサークル最後の停車地のシンクヴェトリル国立公園に着く。ユーラシアプレートと北米プレートの割れ目で、今も毎年約２cmずつ動いているとか。遊歩道を歩く。



I saw coins in the water. Tourists might have thrown them for their wish.

Geysir ゲイシール

Geysir began spouting in the 14th century, but It stopped its activity in the 1960s. It had spouted water up to 80m in the air.

ゲイシールは14世紀から湯を吹き上げていたが、1960年代活動を停止。80mも吹き上げていたとか。


There was Strokkur next to Geysir. It spouted water up to 35m every 10 minutes.
規模はやや小さいが、すぐ近くのストロックル間欠泉が約10分ごとに湯を吹き上げる。それでも35mも吹き上げる。

Gullfoss グトルフォス

We left Kerið. We could see the great landscape from bus on our way to Gullfoss.
Gullfoss was the most famous waterfall in Iceland. Gullfoss means golden waterfall in Icelandic. In the 1920s, a dam for a hydro-electric project was planed there. The landowner’s daughter knew about that, she threatened to throw herself into the waterfall if the project was proceeded. The project was canceled, now we can see the great waterfall.
There was a path. I walked toward the waterfall.

ケリズ火口湖をあとにして、向かったのはグトルフォス。バスから見える風景は、大自然と牧場。国民約３０万人のうち約２０万人が首都のレイキャビックに住んでいるので、他の地域ではあまり家を見かけない。
グトルフォスは思っていたよりずっと大きく、迫力ある。
グトルフォスとはアイスランド語で「黄金の滝」。1920年代、ダム建設の計画を知った一人の女性が、ダムを建設するなら身を投げると宣言して計画が中止となり、この滝が守られたとか。
遊歩道を歩いていくと、滝に近づける。雪で滑らないように、ゆっくり歩く。

Kerið ケリズ火口湖

We visited “Golden Circle” on the second day in Iceland. There were the most popular destinations for tourists. The first stop was Kerið. It was a explosion crater and a lake in it. it was nice that there was not an artificial ugly fence around the lake.
Our guide said “ Usually it’s not as cold as today. This year, the snow started falling earlier than usual.”

アイスランド２日目は、アイスランドで一番有名な観光ルートのゴールデンサークルのツアー。ガイドのフィルドルさんは、「いつもはこんなに寒くない。今年は雪が降り出すのが早い。」と、言っていた。
最初の停車地はケリズ火口湖。湖面に光があたると、もっときれいなんだろうな。湖の周囲に柵がないのがいい。

Iceland アイスランド

It was six years ago. I met an Australian man at a YH in New Zealand. He said “I’ve been to more than fifty countries. Iceland was the most amazing country.” It was four years ago that I decided to go to Iceland in the near future. I met Australian couple at a YH in Akita in Japan. They said “You can see many different sceneries in Iceland, such as look like the surface of the moon, green fields. There were lots of nature. We want to visit again!”
Last year, I planed to go to France for my vacation. When I went to a travel agency to buy flight tickets, I happened to find a brochure of Iceland organized tour. I changed my mind. I applied the tour.

アイスランドへ行きたいと思ったのは、６年くらい前のこと。ニュージーランドのユースホステルで出会ったオーストラリア人から「今までに５０カ国くらい旅行したけど、一番良かったのはアイスランドだったよ。」と聞いた時。必ず行こうと決心したのは、４年前。秋田のユースホステルで出会ったオーストラリア人カップルが「アイスランドは月の表面のような場所や緑の多い場所などいろいろな風景が見られる。自然が多く、ヨーロッパの中で一番良かった。」と言った時。
去年、長期休暇にはフランスへ行こうと、ガイドブックを買って旅行を計画。航空券を買うために旅行会社へ行った時に、アイスランド旅行のパンフレットが目に入り、すぐ申し込んでしまった。
パッケージ旅行はほとんど利用したことがないので、１人参加は寂しいかなとか、どんな人たちと一緒になるのかな、などどきどき。でも、ホテルも食事も交通機関もついているので、とても楽で安心。


It took about twelve hours to get to Iceland by nonstop flight. The land was covered with snow.
日本から直行便でアイスランドへ約１２時間。もうすぐ到着。アイスランドは雪に覆われて寒そう。

We headed to Blue lagoon. It was surrounded by lava flows.

宿泊のホテルに行く前に、月の表面のような溶岩台地の中を温泉ブルーラグーン(Blue Lagoon)へ向かって、バスは走る。

You should wash from head to foot before taking the spa. There was a guidance how to take a spa. I washed my body, put on a bathing suit, then I took the spa.
I had to stand on my toes in the center of the spa. But the hot water (good temperature for me) flowed out. I met a group of Swede. One of them said “My daughter has been to Tokyo. I know Japanese song SUKIYAKI.” We started to sing the song in the middle of the spa.

身体をしっかり洗って、水着に着替える。外国人のためにと日本の銭湯に貼ってある“正しいお風呂の入り方”と同じようなものが貼ってあった。アイスランドでは、温泉に入る前には髪から足先まできれいに洗わなければいけないのです。
この温泉は座れるところから、つま先立ちで首の深さまであり。温度もまちまちで、中央の湯が出ているところが熱くてちょうどいい。
温泉では、どこでも話しが始まってしまう。スウェーデンから来たというグループの１人が「娘が東京に行ったことがあるんだ。スキヤキソング知ってるよ。」と言い、「上を向いて、歩こうよ、、、」と合唱が始まった。

Ibukiyama 伊吹山 ２

I had a rest next to a small shrine in the eighth stage.
The number and types of flowers increased above the ninth stage.

８合目のお宮の横で、おにぎり食べて一息。９合目からは、咲いている花の種類が増える。遊歩道を反時計回りに歩くことにする。




Ibukiyama is 1377m. There were some restaurants and shops near the top of the mountain. There were lots of tanpopo ( dandelion). I could see beautiful view and yellow flowers there, I thought I had lunch, but I also could see lots of flies and they annoyed me. I gave up lunch at the place, stared walking.

山頂は1377m。売店あたりにはたんぽぽがたくさん咲いていた。お昼ご飯にしようと思ったけど、あまりにハエが多いので退散して歩き出す。




I noticed something sound from field. A kiji (pheasant) was taking sand on his back and wings. He had a red face and beautiful tail feather.

何か音がして、目を向けるとキジが砂浴び中。カメラを向けると、いそいそと草の陰へと歩き出す。真っ赤な顔と立派な尾羽。おじゃましました。。。




There were a lot of wild flowers. I walk down on the east path (it had steep and narrow slopes) to the car park, then walked up on the west path (it had gentle slopes). The elementary school students I met on the foot of Ibukiyama were having lunch on the top of mountain.

このあたりは、白や黄色や紫のお花畑。
東遊歩道を下り、駐車場経由で西遊歩道を歩く。東遊歩道は山道という感じで足下に十分気をつけなければいけないけど、西遊歩道はなだらかな整備された道で歩きやすい。
頂上では登山口で出会った小学生達が、お弁当を食べていた。


I started to walk down to the third stage of Ibukiyama. I really didn’t want to leave the wild flowers field. I promised to come back in the near future. Then I took the ropeway.

ゆっくり山を下る。３合目では、ゴンドラが静かに私を待っていてくれた。

Ibukiyama 伊吹山 1

I had planed to walk around Omihachiman YH before leaving. But I talked a lot to a woman who shared a room with me, the time flew, I had to jump on a bus without walking around there. I took a train at Omihachiman JR station, then I changed trains at Maibara, I got off at Ominagaoka. A small bus was waiting for passengers in front of the station, I got in it. There were 4 hikers and 3 local people in the bus. It took 12 minutes to get Ibukitozanguchi where I got off. There was Sannomiya shrine near the bus stop, approximately 100 elementary school students were listening to their teachers talking there. It seemed they would climb up Ibukiyama.
I passed the shrine, headed to the station of ropeway. When I got there, the ropeway was waiting for me quietly. I said “Good morning” to the staff, he said “Good morning. Get in the first gondola. I’ll start it.” It was six-passenger gondola. It started to move up. I could see houses, rice fields, hills, mountains, and so on. It moved up to the third stage of Ibukiyama (720m above sea level).

朝、近江八幡YHの周辺をお散歩してから出発しようと思っていたが、同室者との話がはずんでバスの時間きりきりに出発。近江八幡駅からJRに乗り、米原で乗り換えて、近江長岡へ。駅前では約20人乗りの小さなバスが待っていた。ハイカーが４人と地元の人が３人。伊吹登山口で下りる。バス停の近くに三の宮神社があり、小学生100人くらいが座って先生の話を聞いていた。これから登山なのね。三の宮神社を過ぎ、ゴンドラ乗り場へ歩く。
ゴンドラは止まっていた。お客さんが来ると、動かすらしい。ゴンドラからは景色が良く、田植えが終わった田んぼがたくさん。ぐんぐん登っていっきに３合目（標高720m）へ。


There were a restaurant, a shop and a bath in a hotel that was next to the station of ropeway. The staff of the hotel said “There are usually clouds on the mountain. Today is perfect!”
There were lots of wild flowers.

３合目にはホテルやレストランがあり、薬草の湯なるお風呂もあるらしい。「こんなに天気が良いのはめずらしいですよ」と言われ、なんだか得をした気分。頂上まですっきりと見渡せる。
３合目ではいろいろな花が咲いていて、写真を撮りながらゆっくり歩く。ほんと、ここは季節ごとにたくさん花の咲く草原だなと実感。




This is odorikoso (dancing girl grass). I could see them in many places.
今回のお気に入り、オドリコソウ。あちこちで見られた。


There was a vending machine at the fifth stage (880m). Some hikers took a rest under the shade of the hut. It was the last shade on the trail.

５合目（標高880m）には自動販売機があり、ハイカーが休憩していた。建物の日陰で休憩している人も。このハイキングコースには日陰がほとんどないので、貴重な日陰。


While I was walking, I heard the songs of birds, such as kakko (Japanese cuckoo), hototogisu (little cuckoo), uguisu (Japanese bush warbler), kiji (pheasant) and so on.
I named a tree “kakkos’ tree”. Three kakkos flew from the tree, flew over the sky, and flew back to the tree. They sometimes laughed like kookaburra in Australia.

歩いていると、カッコウやホトトギスの声がよく聞こえる。時々うぐいすが鳴き、たまにケーンとキジの声。草原に立つ一本の木をカッコウの木と勝手に名付けた。３羽のカッコウがそこから飛び立ち、また戻ってくる。時々、オーストラリアに住む笑いカワセミのように笑う。

もう少しで山頂。かわいい花達が励ましてくれる。

Omihachiman 近江八幡

I had two days off in this week, the weather forecast had said it would be expected a beautiful weather on that days. I decided to go to Mt. Ibuki where was famous for wild flowers. It’s possible to go there on a day trip, but I have to leave home early morning in that case. I planed to stay at Omihachiman YH before climbing up Mt. Ibuki.
I arrived at JR Omihachiman station around 4 pm. I had enough time to walk around before heading to the YH. I got a map at the information, took a bus. I got off at Obatashiryokanmae. I was walking around. I saw wooden traditional houses. The street was Shinmachi-dori. People lived there still now, some houses were opened for tourists. The day was weekday evening, there were few tourists.

５日前、晴れという天気予報と私の休日が重なったので、以前から気になっていた花の山、伊吹山へ行くことにした。日帰りでも行けるようだけど、早朝の出発となってしまうので、一度行ってみたいと思っていた近江八幡ユースホステル（YH）で一泊することにした。
午後４時過ぎに近江八幡駅に着く。YHへ行く前に町なかをお散歩することにする。観光案内所で地図をもらってバスに乗り、小幡資料館前で下りる。歩いていると、古い家が並んでいる通りに出る。新町通り。今も人が生活している家や、資料館として見学できる家があるようだった。平日の夕方だったので、観光客は数えられるほど。


I kept walking, I reached a canal called Hachiman-bori. It was built in the 16th century by the order of Toyotomi Hidetsugu who was the son of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. There used to be merchants’ ships coming and going between Omihachiman and Biwa Lake. Nowadays, there are ships for tourists. I took a walk on the path along the canal.

てくてく歩いていると、八幡堀という水郷に出た。ここは豊臣秀次が琵琶湖を往来する荷船を八幡に寄港させるために作ったとか。今は水郷めぐりの観光船が通っている。水郷沿いには遊歩道もあり、お散歩する。

Omihachiman YH. It was built in 1909, moved to this place in 1964. There were wooden stairs, halls. I was impressed. It reminded me my relative’s house in my childhood days. There were three visitors at the YH. A Japanese woman from USA was traveling around Japan on her holiday. An American man was studying about Japanese history.

近江八幡YH。明治42年に建設され、昭和39年ここに移築された。外観も素敵な木造建築物だけど、内部も立派な造り。どっしりとした階段や廊下、太い柱、変わった形の部屋。子どもの頃の親戚の家を思い出した。
YHではアメリカ在住で日本を旅行中の日本人、日本史を勉強中のアメリカ人と出会う。ほとんど日本語で話したけど、いつでもどこでも怖い話は盛り上がる。。。「古いお寺で宿泊した時、聞こえたのよ〜」。。今晩眠れないじゃない、と思いつつ、朝まで爆睡。
