Ishigaki 石垣

On the last day of our trip, we joined a sightseeing tour in Ishigaki.
The first stop was Tojinbaka. I was so impressed by tiles of dragon's scales and bird's wings.

八重山諸島の旅、３日目。12月17日。定期観光バスに乗って、石垣島を巡りました。乗客は男性２人と、私たち３人。バスガイドと運転手の７人で大型観光バス１台。
最初の停車地は唐人墓。最近補修したらしく、色鮮やかで美しい。特に竜のうろこや鳥の羽が美しいなぁと、見とれていました。


Tojinbaka is a tomb for chinese people who died in Ishigaki.
唐人墓は、石垣で亡くなった中国人のお墓を一カ所に集めたところだそうです。


Kabira-wan. We took a glass bottom boat, watched coral and tropical fish.
川平湾。まず、グラスボートに乗って、珊瑚や熱帯魚を観察。３年前に訪れた時よりも珊瑚の数が復活してきているように思いました。魚の種類も多くて、とても楽しめました。


The sunshine made the scenery brighter. These boats looked as if they were floating in the air.

天候の変化が激しかった今回の旅。この川平湾で日差しがあったのはラッキーでした。
船の影が砂に映って、まるで船が空中に浮いているように見えました。


Our bus ran along the bay.
川平湾をぐるっとまわって反対側の高台に展望台がありました。下車できなかったので、バスから撮りました。


We had a lunch with the ocean scenery.
昼食は海を見ながら。雲と風がやってきました。


After lunch we took a walk around the restaurant. We met two goats which had escaped from a farm.
昼食後、辺りをお散歩していると、やぎが二頭。近くの牧場から逃亡中だとか。


We visited a colony of Yaeyamayashi. They grow only Ishigaki and Iriomote.
米原のヤエヤマヤシ群落。石垣島と西表島にしか自生していない。西表島の仲間川クルージングの時にも見ました。



The roots of Yaeyamayashi looked like beard.
ヤエヤマヤシの根元は、もじゃもじゃ。


The seeds were very small.
このヤシの実は、こんなに小さい。ここに３つ写っています。1cmくらい。


The final destination was Tamatorizaki-tenbodai. We could see the East China Sea and the Pacific Ocean at the same time.

最後の停車地は玉取崎展望台。石垣島の北部を望みます。
東シナ海と太平洋が一度に見渡せます。この時は雨がぽつぽつ。


There were various hibiscus around Tamatorizaki-tenbodai.
玉取崎展望台の周囲には、いろいろな色のハイビスカスが咲いてました。

Yufujima 2 由布島

People lived in Yufujima until 1969, when the island was destroyed by a big typhoon and the flood tide. All people except one moved to other islands. One person remained in the island, planted trees and flowers. Now the whole island is a subtropical botanical garden.

由布島には島民が住んでいましたが、昭和44年の台風の高潮で壊滅的な被害を受けて西表島などへ移住。現在は個人所有の島で、亜熱帯植物園となっています。
入園料は水牛車の往復込みで1300円。往復歩くと、半額くらいだったと思います。


There were various plants.
いろいろな植物が見られました。


Many flowers were blooming.
島は花であふれていました。



There used to be a elementary and junior high school.
島民が住んでいた頃、小中学校がありました。


Kohama Island was close to Yufu Island.
浜辺もありました。海の向こうに、「ちゅらさん」の島、小浜島が見えました。


All of them were bougainvillea in this greenhouse.
ブーゲンビレアって、いろんな種類があるのですね。



Beautiful color.
美しい蝶が飛び回っていました。


This greenhouse was for butterflies.
この温室「チョウ園」では、オオゴマダラがたくさん飛び回っていました。



Ryukyu wild boar.
琉球イノシシもいました。宮崎駿の映画にでてきたような風貌です。

Yufujima 1 由布島

After Nakama River Mangrove Cruise, we headed to Yufu Island. We crossed to Yufu Islamd from Iriomote Island by Suigyusha which was a cart pulled by a water buffalo.

仲間川マングローブクルーズの後、バスが来るまで時間があったので、タクシーで由布水牛車乗り場へ行きました。道路には、「ヤマネコ注意」の標識。
ここから水牛車に乗って、由布島へ。


Many water buffalos were working for tourists.
約30分ごとに、水牛車が海を渡ります。




You can listen the stories and a song about Yufujima.
楽しい話や歌が聞けます。


Water buffalos need bathing to lower the body temperature.
水牛は水浴びが大好き。汗をかかないので、体温調節のために必要だとか。




Am I cute?
かわいい。

Iriomote 西表 1

On the second day of this trip, we visited Iriomote Island by boat. At first we joined Nakama River Mangrove Cruise.

竹富島で一泊した後、石垣島経由で西表島へ。大原港では、仲間川マングローブクルーズのスタッフが観光客を待っていました。遊覧ボート乗り場近くまで、送ってもらいました。


It was the first time for my parents to see mangrove trees.
I should've checked the low tide time. We took the sightseeing boat at high tide, so we couldn't see the roots of mangrove trees clearly.

初めての沖縄という両親にとって、マングローブの森は初めて。
満潮の時間ちかくだったので、マングローブ特有の蛸の足のような根っこがはっきり見れず残念。満潮と干潮の時間を調べるのを忘れていました。



Some big trees were lying because of big typhoons.
台風や大雨で大きな木々が倒れていた。ここでは、倒木でも人の手が入れれないとか。
向こうの山には、ヤシの木の群生。


There was a colony of a kind of palm, yaeyamayashi. They grow only Ishigaki and Iriomote.
ヤエヤマヤシの群生地。西表島と石垣島の一部でしか見られないとか。



We landed on this place to look at a big tree.
上流の船着き場。このすぐ先に、サキシマスオウノキ。
「５分間停泊します」と。５分？　短すぎる。。。



Sakishimasuonoki. Its board shaped root was amazing.
上陸して数十メートルでこのサキシマスオウノキ。この辺りで最大の板根です。


We walked on a boardwalk to protect its root.
根の保護のためでしょう。ウォークボードの上しか歩けません。


We took the sightseeing boat again, headed to the start point.
また観光船に乗って、乗り場まで戻りました。
この日の朝は、豪雨の通り雨でしたが、クルージング中は晴れてラッキー。

Taketomi 竹富 2

Nishi-sanbashi. There are Kohama Island and Iriomote Island in the east.
西桟橋。小浜島や西表島が見えます。


It reminded me of previous trip.
西桟橋では、素敵な夕暮れに出会った夏を思い出しました。




Kondoi Beach. This beach in summer.
コンドイビーチ。夏の海。


We often saw herons flying.
コサギをよく見かけました。




I was surprised to see a water buffalo on the road. But it was tied with a rope.
宿への帰り道。オフタイムの水牛。
びっくりしましたが、ロープにつながれていました。


I visited a shrine. I've seen various creatures here including Zuguromizogoi.
幸本御獄。蝶が飛び、草木の中からは何かが動いてる音。
ズグロミゾゴイの幼鳥にも出会ったこともあり、不思議な空間です。
