Shiranesan -Yugama- 白根山＊湯釜

I happened to see a picture of this crater lake on a guidebook at bookstore. I didn’t believe the color! I want to see it!! I knew that there was a bus route between Onioshidashien and this crater lake, I planed to visit Shiranesan and stay Kusatsu.
It took 90 minutes to get to Shiranekazan bus stop from Onioshidashien. The place was about 2100m above sea level. There was a parking lot. Lots of tourists visited there by car.
I climbed up on the path of steep slope for ten minutes. Then I could see the amazing view! People seemed forgetting their tiredness from climbing, enjoyed the view.

この火口湖の写真を偶然ガイドブックで見た。信じられない湖水の色！ぜひ見たい！調べてみると、鬼押出し園からバスで行けることが分かり、北軽井沢の次は草津に宿泊することにした。
鬼押出し園からバスは自動車専用道路を走り、１時間半で標高約2100mの白根火山のバス停に到着。駐車場があり、観光客はたくさん。約10分急な坂を登ると、この風景が広がる。子どもも年配の方もみんな登りの苦しさを忘れて、「わぁ〜」と眺めていた。


I enjoyed the view of the crater lake for a while, then I walked down. There were many people on the path. It looked like a line of ants.
しばらく見とれた後、歩道を降りた。歩道は人が多く、アリの行列のよう。


I climbed up to another lookout for 15 minutes. It was a little farther from the crater than the first lookout. There were few tourists, I met only 2 people on the path. The movement of clouds made the color of the lake change.

もう一つの展望台へ登った。駐車場から約15分。火口からは少し遠ざかるけど、火口全体が見渡せる。観光客は少なく、歩道で一組の夫婦に出会っただけだった。雲の動きによって、湖面の色や模様が変わるので、いくら見ていても飽きない。

Onioshidashien 鬼押出し園

I left Kitakaruizawa blueberty YGH at 7am, took a walk for Onioshidashien. It was a pleasant walking under the shade of trees.
Suddenly Asamayama showed up, I knew that I got to Onioshidashien. It was formed by a volcanic eruption of Asamayama in 1783.

北軽井沢ブルーベリーYGHを朝７時過ぎに出発し、鬼押出し園まで、てくてくお散歩。木陰の続く道。
急に視界が開け、浅間山が見えた。鬼押出し園に到着。ここは1783年の浅間山大噴火の溶岩の名残。


Asamayama Kannondo
浅間山観音堂


Since I saw Kataoka Tsurutaro’s work “Asamayama ne Kannon” , I can see Asamayama as Kannon laying. The higher mountain (Asamayama) looks like its body, the right mountain (Kurofuyama) looks like its profile.

片岡鶴太郎の“浅間山寝観音”の作品を見てから、浅間山が観音様の身体、右隣の山（黒斑山）が観音様の横顔に見えて仕方がない。


There were strange shapes of rocks. Some of them looked like animals, people and monsters.
奇岩が多く、人や動物に見える。

There were lots of plants on the lava field.
溶岩台地には植物がたくさん育っている。


Asamayama is an active volcano. There were shelters of concrete blocks.
ここは火山のそば。ところどころに避難場所があった。

Asama ootaki 浅間大滝

I arrived at Kitakaruizawa one hour earlier than I had planed. I rented a bicycle, headed to Asama ootaki.
I could see cute flowers on my way.

北軽井沢に予定より１時間早く着いたので、レンタサイクルで浅間大滝まで行くことにした。
道沿いでは、かわいい花が出迎えてくれた。






It took 15 minutes to get to a parking lot. Then I walked to Asamaootaki for 5 minutes.
約15分で駐車場に到着。徒歩約５分で、浅間大滝へ。





Asama ootaki is 15m high.
浅間大滝は高さ15m。

Shiraito-no-taki 白糸の滝

Joshua puts pictures of Japanese scenic view and traditional buildings on his blog. I often decide to visit there in the near future when I see them. On the end of August, I went to one of them, Karuizawa. Then I went to Kusatsu on the following day.
Karuizawa was crowded, although it was week day. The temperature was 25℃. They visited there to avoid the hot and humid summer. I took a bus to Shiraito-no-taki.
Shiraito-no-taki is 2-3m high and 70m wide. The water though underground comes out there. The water was cold and clear.

Joshuaは日本各地の美しい風景や伝統的建物などを自分のブログで紹介してくれている。それを見ていると、ここ行きたい！と思うことがしばしば。その中の軽井沢と、少し足をのばして草津へ旅した。
８月下旬、平日にも関わらず軽井沢には人がたくさん。気温25℃と涼しい。バスに乗り、白糸の滝へ。道は細くて、北軽井沢まで車で40分のところが、お盆の時期は1~2時間かかることもあるとか。白糸の滝のバス停から徒歩５分足らずで、白糸の滝。夏休みのため、子どもが多い。
白糸の滝は高さ2-３m、幅70m。地下水が岩肌から糸のように細く湧き出している。水は冷たく、澄んでいた。

Landmannalaugar

We left Eldgjá. The bus headed to Landmannalaugar on bumpy road, crossed rivers. There was snow on the mountains. The bus driver sometimes said “photo stop!” and stopped the bus at places of scenic beauty.
エルドギャウEldgjáを出発。バスは、がたがた道をどんどん走っていく。ずっと景色良い。しばらくすると雪渓が見られるようになってきた。景色の特に良いところでは、ドライバーは“photo stop”と言ってバスを止めてくれた。360度見渡せる景色は写真に撮れないのが残念。




We arrived at Landmannalaugar. Some of passengers started to set up their tents at the campsite. I went for a walk around there. The mountains were colorful such as green, red, blue, brown and black. The landscape was so beautiful.
ランドマンアロイガルLandmannalaugarに到着。ここでレイキャヴィーク行きのバスが出発するまでの約９０分お散歩する。バスの乗客の４−５人は、早速ここのキャンプ場にテントを張り始めた。ここの山の土は緑色や赤色のところがあり、とてもきれい。


There was a outdoor hot spring.
露天風呂もある。水着を着て、３人入浴中。


I had planned to take a bus to Reykjavík. But it hadn’t arrived yet. I asked bus driver if he knew what happened to the bus, but he just shrugged. I began to be anxious. Because I had to take a airplane on the next early morning to come back home. A few minutes later, I noticed 5 passengers were talking. I went to them, asked what happened. One of passengers was a Finn, she could speak English and Icelandic. She talked to the bus driver in Icelandic, then she told passengers in English “The bus for Landmannalaugar had a trouble. Now another bus headed here.” All passengers were relieved.
レイキャヴィーク行きのバスがなかなか来ない。ドライバーに尋ねると両手をあげて首をかしげる。ここまで乗ってきたバスは、レイキャヴィークからの乗客も乗せて、スカフタフェットルへ戻る予定。今日、レイキャヴィークに戻れなかったら、明日早朝発の飛行機に乗れず、日本に帰れないよー。と心細くなってきた時、バスのそばで５人くらい話しをしているのを見つけ、話の輪に入った。乗客の中に、英語が上手でアイスランド語も勉強中のフィンランド人女性がいて、彼女がドライバーにアイスランド語で何が起こったのかを聞いたらしい。レイキャヴィークからのバスはここにくる途中、何かトラブルが起こって、代替バスでこちらに向かっている。いつバスが到着するかわからないが、レイキャヴィークからの乗客のために、このバスも待っているらしい。その話を聞いて、乗客達は安心。


I got in a bus for Reykjavík one hour later. I left Iceland the following day. My seven days trip in Iceland was over.
I understand people said to me “Iceland was the most impressed country in my life”.
２時間半遅れたバスに乗ってレイキャヴィークに戻り、一週間のアイスランド旅行が終わった。自然がいっぱいで、国全体が国立公園のようなアイスランド。毎日、朝から夜まで感動しっぱなし。「アイスランドは今までで、一番印象に残った国だった」と言っていた人たちの気持ちが理解できた。また機会があれば、パフィンに会いに行きたいなぁ。

Kirkjubæjarklaustur ~ Eldgjá

The last day of my Iceland trip. I went back to Reykjavík via Landmannalaugar. I left skaftafell at 8am.
The first stop was Kirkjubæjarklaustur, quiet village. There was a beautiful waterfall, Systrafoss.
アイランド旅行の最終日。スカフタフェットルからレイキャヴィークへ戻った。海岸線経由よりも料金が高く時間もかかるが、景色が素晴らしいとガイドブックにのっていた山間経由のバスに乗った。
朝８時、キャンプ場から大きなバックパックを背負った旅行者達も乗せてバスは出発。まず、キルキュバイヤルクロイストゥルKirkjubæjarklausturで停車。緑が多く、素敵な滝や湖がある。アイスランド初めての修道院が建てられた場所だとか。


The bus ran in the vast lava field. I could see mountains covered with snow far away.
バスは溶岩台地の中を走る。広い。遥か前方に雪をかぶった山々が見えてきた。


The bus ran in pastures. The road wasn’t paved, it was so bumpy. It looked like path for walking on the mountain.
牧草地の中をバスは走る。登山道じゃないの？と思うような、舗装されていない細くてでこぼこ道。もちろん、ガードレールなし。


The bus often crossed the river. If you’d like to drive in Iceland, you have to be a good driver.
橋がかかっていないところも多く、車もバイクも川を渡る。アイスランドをレンタカーで旅行するなら、運転が上手でないと生命にも関わりそう。


We arrived at Eldgjá(Fire Gorge). The bus driver shown us a postcard of a waterfall and said “50minutes stop”. We started walking along the river to see the waterfall.
エルドギャウ（火の峡谷）Eldgjáに到着。このバスの運転手は英語が苦手のようで、滝の写真を乗客に見せて50分と言った。50分停車しているので、この先にある滝を見ておいでと。川に沿って、遊歩道をてくてく歩いて約20分。やっと滝が見えた。

It took about 20minutes to get there. There used be a natural bridge on the waterfall, but it collapsed in 1990s.
十数年前まで、滝には自然の橋がかかっていたが、崩れてしまったらしい。

Skaftafell - Glacier -

I headed to Sjónarnipa where you can see the glacier from the hill. There was a nice waterfall on my way to Sjónarnipa.
It was raining. When I began to come to mind “I might get lost”, the glacier （Skaftafellsjökull）suddenly appeared.
Glacier in Iceland were covered with black sand of lava. There was a lake at the end of the glacier, became a big river.

氷河を見渡せるポイント（Sjónarnipa）へ向かった。降り出した雨は、今回はなかなか止まない。途中、滝が見えた。アイスランドは本当に滝が多い。
滝を過ぎてもなかなか氷河が見えず、道を間違えたのかもと不安になってきた時、現れました。欧州最大のヴァトナ氷河の一端（Skaftafellsjökull）。アイスランドの氷河は砂状になった溶岩のため、黒くなっているところが多いのが特徴。氷河の先端には氷河湖があり、大河となる。



The rain didn’t stop. I had planed to walk down the hill and go to the end of the glacier, but I gave it up. I went back to the accommodation. I took a shower, had a dinner at kitchen.
The rain stopped at 7pm, I started walking to the end of the glacier.
It was about 2km from the visitor center to the glacier. It looked shorter distance then 2km, though. I saw a few waterfalls during walking.
雨は本格的に降り、止みそうもない。山を降りて、氷河の先端へ行こうと思ってけどあきらめて宿に戻る。シャワーを浴び、キッチンでパスタの夕食。お部屋でくつろいでいたら、外が明るくなってきた。午後７時、再びハイキングに出発。
ビジターセンターから氷河の先端まで、約２km。近くに見えるのになかなか着かない。途中にも滝がある。





Finally I arrived at the end of the glacier.
やっと到着。白と黒の世界。
