Reykjavík ~ Vík

I arrived at the domestic airport. It was beautiful weather. I decided to walk 4-5km to YH. I walked along the coast. There was a path, people enjoyed jogging, walking and cycling. It was around 7pm, still light. The YH was quite big. There was a campsite behind the YH.
The next day, I went to Höfn by bus. It took 8 hours.
It was difficult to pronounce Icelandic words. When I bought a ticket, I said “Höfn” sound like an unexpected hiccup as my guidebook said.
When I was waiting my bus, a Japanese man spoke to me, “Are you from Japan?” in Japanese. He was only person who I talked to Japanese in Iceland in this trip. He worked in Iceland as a bus driver. He said “Skaftafell is beautiful place. Enjoy your trip in Iceland.” I was looking forward to the rest of this trip.

レイキャヴィーク空港からYHまで４−５kmあるが、天気が良いし、お散歩がてら海沿いを歩いていくことにした。海沿いには歩道があり、ジョギングやウォーキング、サイクリングしている人達。海からの風が気持ちいい。19時頃だけど、真昼のよう。YHは大きく、人は多い。ヘイマエイ島とのギャップにたじろぐ。社会復帰できるのか不安になる。YHの横にはキャンプ場があり、テントがたくさん見える。
次の朝、天気が良かったので、バスターミナルまで歩いていく。この日は、ホプンまで８時間バスの旅。バスターミナルに定期バスの時刻表があり、もらっておくと便利だった。アイスランド語の発音は難しく、ガイドブックに書いていた通り、しゃっくりをするように「ホプン」と発音して、チケットを買った(7400Ikr)。
バスを待っていると「日本からですか？」と声をかけられた。サングラスをかけていたのでお顔は分からなかったが、このバス会社で働く日本人。久しぶりの日本語と、日本人がアイスランドで働いているということがなんだかうれしい。「スカフタフェットルもきれいなところですよ」と言われ、これからの旅がより楽しみになった。

The bus stopped at small towns (Selfoss, Hella, Hvolsvöllur). Then the bus ran between hills and the coast.

Selfoss, Hella, Hvolsvöllurの町を過ぎると、遠くに雪をかぶった山など見えだす。山並みが近づいてくると、滝に気づく。


Countless waterfalls. Each waterfall was beautiful.
滝は次々に現れる。数えきれないほどの滝。それぞれがとてもきれい。

氷河が見えてきた。


This waterfall (Skógafoss) was big.
たくさんあった滝の中で、いちだんと大きな滝（Skógafoss）が見えてきた。


Skógar. I took this photo from the bus. If the bus has stopped for 10-20 minutes, I would have walked around.
Skógarのバス停。ここで、10-20分の停車時間が欲しかったなぁ。バスは１日１便なので、一泊したりヒッチハイクしない限り、途中下車できない。一泊して、辺りをお散歩するのも良さそう。


Vast flowers’ field. I could see them more than 30 minutes from the bus.
I don’t know how to describe the spacious nature of Iceland.
広大な自然のお花畑。何十分経っても、まだ続く。
アイスランドの広大な自然の大きさを何と表現したらいいのかわからない。あまりに大きすぎて、圧倒される。


I arrived at a beautiful town, Vík. The bus stopped for 55 minutes. Other passengers went to a café for lunch, but I went for a walk. It was strong winds, sometimes difficult to breathe.
バスは突然美しい町に入る。Vík。ここで、55分の休憩。乗客や運転手は昼食のためカフェに入るが、私は来た道を戻り丘へと目指す。風が強く、時々息がしにくくなる。

この丘を登ってみよう。

町を見下ろす。海が近い。


The church is faraway. I have to go back to the bus.
バス停から見えた教会が遠くに見える。バスに戻らなきゃ。


I went down the hill. There was a path in the coast.
バス停に戻る。海側にも遊歩道があり、お散歩できそう。この町で一泊しても良さそう。

Heimaey -birds-

Birds lived in this island were not only puffins. There were countless birds on the cliffs. I guess there were several kinds of birds, but I recognized only three kinds, puffins, gulls and guillemots.
There were also many birds in the fields.
ヘイマエイにいる鳥は、パフィンだけじゃない。
断崖には無数の海鳥。いろいろな種類の鳥がいたんだろうけど、私にはパフィン、ウミガラス、カモメの３種類にしか分けられなかった。
草原にもにぎやかな鳥達。


They were singing each other.
この鳥は、仲間とよく鳴きあっていた。


It has an orange beak. They sang warming sound at me.
くちばしがオレンジのこの鳥は、警戒音のような声で鳴いていた。


I saw guillemots on a boat tour. They looked like penguins. But they can fly.
船から見たウミガラス。頭が黒くて、ペンギンみたい。もちろん飛べる。


Gulls were flying on the ascending air current.
カモメ。上昇気流にのって、気持ち良さそうに飛んでいた。時々、なんか変なのが来たなぁと、私を近くまで見に来た。


I left Heimaey. I flew to Reykjavík.
３日間過ごしたヘイマエイ島を後に、いったんレイキャヴィークに戻った。

Heimaey -boat tour-

I joined a boat tour. It went around the island for 90 minutes, visited caves and bird-nesting cliffs. I bought a ticket at a café in front of the pier. It was drizzling. I got in a boat. There were 10 – 12 passengers. The captain spoke in Icelandic and English. It was difficult to me to understand what he said, because of a noise of the ship and English through a speaker. But a crew came to me, explained for me.
The northeast coast. The lava flowed into the sea. There had been a natural bridge between the small island and the coast.

海鳥の巣がある断崖や洞窟を巡りながら、島を90分かけて一周する船に乗った。チケットは船乗り場前のカフェで買い、霧雨の降る中船に乗り込む。乗客は年配の人を中心に10-12人。船長はアイスランド語と英語で説明してくれたが、船の大きな音とスピーカーを通した英語ではほとんど聞き取れない。すると、スタッフの一人が近づいてきて、丁寧に説明してくれた。
この写真は島の北東部で溶岩が海に流れ込んだ場所。以前は、少し離れた島に天然の橋がかかっていたらしい。

Lots of birds such as puffins and gulls were flying.
パフィンやカモメなど、海鳥がたくさん飛んでいる。
少し晴れてきた。


A cave. The ship went close or in caves in this tour. The captain played a saxophone in the last cave.
洞窟。このツアーでは何カ所かの洞窟に船を進めてくれた。最後の洞窟内では船長がサックスを演奏。拍手喝采。

The sunshine changed the color of sea.
晴れると海の色が変化した。


Birds were flying around the boat.
船の周りにも鳥が飛んでいる。


There were birds each hole in cliffs. There were sheep in fields.
断崖のくぼみには鳥、鳥、鳥。草原には羊。




I felt shorter than 90 minutes. I really enjoyed the tour. Then I noticed I was hungry. I headed a restaurant.
短く感じた90分のツアー。感動で胸がいっぱい。お腹がすいているのに気づく。


It was the first restaurant in this trip. I ordered weekday lunch special (900Ikr) my guidebook recommended. It included rice, lamb, salad, cake, coffee and chocolate soup. It was nice. But it was too much for me, I couldn’t eat a chocolate soup. When the dishes were served, they gave me a bottle of soy sauce. Japanese people must sometimes visit this restaurant.

今回の旅行で初のレストラン。ガイドブックに載っていた、YHも経営しているホテルのレストランへ行く。平日の日替わり定食(900Ikr)。ご飯、ラム、サラダ、ケーキ、コーヒー、チョコスープ（聞き間違いでなければ）。おいしかったけど、量が多くて途中でギブアップ。チョコスープって興味があったけど、満腹のため遠慮した。料理と一緒にお醤油がついてきた。時々日本人が訪れるのだろう。

Heimaey -flowers-

Lots of flowers welcomed me in Iceland.
I’ve seen some of them in Japan.
I often felt that some flowers said to me “ Take a photo of me!”.

アイスランドでは、たくさんの花の歓迎を受けた。
日本の山で見たことのある花や、初めて見る花。
私を撮って！と主張する花。











I saw flowers which I had seen in Rebun Island in Japan.
浜辺では、北海道の礼文島で見たことがある花に出会う。



These flowers reminded me Rebun Island.
この花も。礼文島、なつかしいなぁ。

Heimaey -Eldfell-

Eldfell was made by the volcanic eruption in 1973. 221m above sea level. It was difficult to clime up on stones and sand, but it didn’t take long time to reach the top of the mountain. There was no volcanic smoke, no sulfur smell. But the mountain was warm, the steam was rising from the surface.

Eldfell は1973年の大噴火で現れた新しい山。標高221m。足元が悪いが、登ってみるとすぐに頂上に着いた。噴煙や硫黄のにおいはなかったが、暖かくて水蒸気がほんのり上がってる。

It seemed it was difficult to walk here on strong windy days.

I walked down. Beautiful stones.
下山の途中。石がカラフルできれい。


Lava field. I felt that the lava surely flew here 33 years ago.
It was difficult to find a path. I walked around to find the footsteps. The path was along the foot of Eldfell.
下山すると、そこは溶岩台地。33年前に溶岩が流れていたんだ、という実感がわいてくる。
道路からお散歩道への入り口がわかりにくい。足跡を頼りに歩き回る。山のすそ野と溶岩台地の境目がお散歩道だった。

この辺りからも、マグマが吹き出していたのか？


I walked on the path.
足跡をたどって、山のすそ野を歩く。

こんなところにも、花がきれいに咲いている。

緑の大地が見えてきた。

あっ、うさぎ。


I followed the hare, then I found a hole. Was it the entrance of the wonderland?
後をついていくと、大きな穴があった。不思議の国への入り口？

There were green grasses around me. There was pleasant breeze.
I felt relaxed. I took a rest here for a while. My backpack was having a nap.
緑に囲まれて、なんだか気持ちがリラックスした。しばらくここで、休憩。私のリュックも昼寝をしている。
