Hakodate 3 サル山

I went to Hakodate City Tropical Botanical Garden. Japanese monkeys were taking a hot spring.
函館市営熱帯植物園のサル山には、温泉がありました。

They looked like people.
温泉は、人もサルも気持ちいい〜。






A monkey was eating an apple as if it had a mustache.
白い口ひげと思ったら、リンゴを食べています。

Hakodate 2 夜景

The night view of Hakodate was amazing. I went to an observation by ropeway.
函館に来たら、やっぱり夜景を見なきゃ。ロープウエイで展望台へ。





I could see the huge Christmas tree.
クリスマスツリーも見えました。

Hakodate 1 クリスマスツリー

I flew to Hakodate in Hokkaido on December 12.
There was a huge Chrismas tree which had been sent from one of its sister cities Halifax in Canada.

函館のクリスマスツリーです。今月中旬、訪れました。
函館の姉妹都市、カナダのハリファックス市から贈られたもみの木だそうです。





There were many shops and restaurants in the brick warehouses.
赤レンガ倉庫は、現在レストランやショップなど。

Broome ブルーム 2

This place looked like somewhere in Japan. But here is Broome in Australia.
ここは、ブルームです。オーストラリアです。日本っぽいのに、今回の旅で日本人に会うことは、ありませんでした。



Baobab trees lined on the street.
街路樹はバオバブの木。ブルームの町を、てくてくお散歩。




Broome was attacked by Japanese on March 3 during World War 2.
第二次世界大戦中、日本軍はブルームを攻撃しました。1942年３月３日。


They contributed to the pearling industry in Broome.
Shinju Matsuri (Festival of the Pearl) is held every year.
真珠産業に貢献した人たち。２人は日本人のようです。
毎年「真珠祭り」が開催されています。

When I was walking towards Broome Airport, I noticed a bird.
ブルーム空港に向かって、てくてく歩いていると、一羽の鳥に気付きました。


It must be a Kookaburra. But I've never seen such beautiful color of the wings. I was very happy to see it at the end of my Australia trip.
ククバラ（ワライカワセミ）のようですが、羽の色がとてもきれい！
旅の最後に素敵なお見送りだなんて、オーストラリアがまた一段と好きになりました。

Broome ブルーム 1

I joined a half day tour in Broome. Australian people from different places were enjoying on their holiday at Cable Beach.

ブルームへ向かう国内線で隣りの席だった女性に、ガンシュームポイントはぜひ行ってみてと教えてもらいました。でも、そこへ行くタウンバスは朝一番の一本だけ。そこで、半日ブルーム市内観光に参加することにしました。
８月はオーストラリアでは冬なので、シドニーやパースなどの他の都市から、バケーションで訪れている人が多い。ここは、乾期で気温30℃前後。ケーブルビーチには、人がたくさん。


Gantheaume Point. Strange shaped rocks were interesting.
ガンシュームポイント。奇岩の風景が楽しい。




They were replicas of dinosaur footprints. Real ones are visible only at low tide.
恐竜の足跡が残っていることで有名。本物は海の中で、引き潮の時にしか見れない。


Sun Pictures was an old movie theater, but still operating.
サン・ピクチャーという映画館。古いけれど、現在も営業中。
「オーストラリア」という映画で、ここでロケをしたのでは？と思ったシーンがありました。



There were old equipment. These lanterns looked like Japanese ones.
サン・ピクチャーの中には、昔の機材もありました。和紙で作ったような電燈は日本っぽい。



The screen was outdoor.
スクリーンは野外にあります。


Pearl Lugger. It was a pearl museum and shop.
次に行ったのが、パール・ラッガー。ブルームは真珠養殖で有名なのですが、日本の人たちが来て、技術を伝えました。昔は、重い靴を履いて、身体を沈めていたそうです。




Japanese Cemetery. Many Japanese people contributed to Broome's pearling industry.
最後に日本人墓地を訪れました。真珠産業で溺れたり潜水病で亡くなった人、サイクロンで亡くなった人たちです。
20歳代の人もいました。ほとんどが、西日本の海沿いの県出身で、特に和歌山県出身の人が多かった。


Our guide explained the pearling industry history and what were written on these gravestones.
ガイドさんは、日本人の私の前で日本のことを説明するのは緊張すると言いながら、明治や大正の年号のことなども説明していました。
